our story
Welcome to Zongo Media
Zongo Media is a project of the Media Literacy Development Foundation (MLDF), a non-profit organisation registered in 2023 to develop media and information literacy skills in young people from underserved communities of Ghana.
Our youth-centred training and learning space called the Zongo Media Academy provides a framework for learners to access, analyze, evaluate, and create messages in various forms, including print, video, audio, and social media to build their capacities as media entrepreneurs, communicators and change agents.
Our mission is to build an understanding of the role of media in society, along with essential skills of inquiry, critical thinking, analysis, self-expression and creativity necessary for youth development and democratic inclusion.
The Zongo Media Academy is driven by experienced media professionals from the Zongo Media Network, a professional group created by the Media Literacy Development Foundation to offer experienced media professionals the opportunity to volunteer their professional skills and experience to the Zongo community.

Zongo Communities
The 16 regions of Ghana have a mix of Zongo communities with much denser populations in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions. A 2018 report by the defunct Ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development indicated that there are 1,080 Zongos across Ghana with 4.6 million inhabitants.
