Two overnight showers of rain in Accra within a week tore down buildings and cars and killed people. The downpour did not spare people in the Zongo communities where many sleep in makeshift buildings and stores.
The destruction occurred at places including Alajo, the community between Nima and Newtown, Circle etc.
Below is a video showing some images from these communities after the rain.
Nima and Kanda residents are among the 200,000 people to benefit from the 78-MVA primary substation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) funded by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
Constructed at Kanda in Accra, the facility is expected to improve power supply to more than 200,000 residents in the area and also enhance supply to parts of Ridge and Cantonments, Nima, Roman Ridge, Burma Camp and Airport Residential Area, Daily Graphic reported on May 26, 2022.
The 37 Military Hospital, the National Mosque, the Jubilee House, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital will also benefit from the substation which was constructed as part of the ECG’s Financial and Operational Turnaround (EFOT) project of the Ghana Power Compact Programme.
